Benchmark Protein Transition

What measures are supermarkets taking to achieve protein transition targets?

The protein transition is developing rapidly and is high on the agendas of supermarkets, government and civil society. Supermarkets have taken an important step by setting targets on the sale of plant-based and animal proteins.

To monitor retailer’s developments, this project launches an intermediary measurement between bi-annual Superlist Green publications. This benchmark wil monitor what supermarkets are doing individually to realise the targets they have set.

The movement to plant-based in the supermarket slowly but surely underway

Supermarkets are clearly committed to the sale of more plant-based and less animal food. They are experimenting with measures, including making meat portions smaller. An acceleration is crucial to reach their targets of 60 percent plant0based sales in 2030. As of now meat and dairy products are equally dominant in promotions as in the past years.
