Dutch Supermarkets prepare for sustainability, concrete measures still limited
5th October - The second Superlist Green was published in The Netherlands. This research compares the sustainability efforts of the seven largest supermarkets in the Netherlands
Supermarkets are preparing to play a substantial role in making the food system more sustainable. They are doing so by measuring and reporting on their current performance and setting ambitious targets. However, measures in their product ranges, promotions and shop layout are still pending. Supermarkets are therefore not yet using their actual leverage to make agriculture on the one hand and Dutch diets on the other hand more sustainable. In the 2023 ranking, Ekoplaza, Lidl and Albert Heijn lead the way. Plus, lags most.
